Survey of Information Services Market in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

This paper brings basic mapping of Information Services Market in the Czech Republic. First, the basic legal framework of Czech information services will be outlined, following the market split out on the basic segments (Public sector services, Private sector services – both in deeper detail). The paper will continue with a survey of essential information sources including their availability for commercial use, especially regarding possibility of information technologies usage. Next, the current offer of value-added services from different (selected) organizations acting on the Czech market will be presented. Interest and professional associations operating in the field of Information services will be mentioned. In the further part of the paper, basic barriers hindering a better exploitation of information for the benefit of business development will be summed up (as members of Czech PSI Watch Initiative identified them). At the end, some experience from other countries will be summarized (especially from European countries recorded by ePSIplus project).

About author:

Ing. Dagmar Vranova graduated from the University of Economics in Prague (Mathematical methods in economy) in 1975. She worked for research institutes and for Public Administration. Later on she moved to business, working as a manager for a private software company focused on DMS. After 2 years working for Prague Stock Exchange she was appointed as a CEO of Czech Capital Information Agency (CEKIA) focusing on data collecting and providing value-added information services for capital market, financial institutions and business. From 2006 Mrs. Vranova has joined EPMA - European Project & Management Agency (www.epma.cz) as a Strategic Development Director. She was involved into several European upcoming projects focused on building of information society and knowledge-based economy. Mrs. Vranova is skilled in information services focused on business processes, knows well business environment in the Czech Republic and is familiar with local public sector information holders and providers. She is a co-founder of the Czech PSI Watch Initiative (www.czechpsi.info) focusing on “Re-use Directive” (2003/98 EC) implementation into the Czech legal environment and business practice and she is a national correspondent for ePSIplus project (www.epsiplus.net).
